Africa Pleasure Hub

The African Pleasure Hub, hosted by the Kenya SRHR Alliance, is a pioneering initiative that promotes open, inclusive, and sex-positive conversations across Africa. The Hub provides a safe space to learn together, consult with diverse communities, and generate evidence that informs sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming. By centering pleasure as a vital aspect of well-being, APH challenges myths, amplifies diverse voices, and fosters healthy, consensual, and fulfilling sexual experiences.

About the Hub

The African Pleasure Hub (APH), hosted by the Kenya SRHR Alliance, is now active across 13 African countries, uniting advocates, educators, and organizations committed to normalizing pleasure-positive approaches within sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

Our journey began through our engagement with IPPF’s “Treasure Your Pleasure” campaign, which opened the door to meaningful conversations around pleasure, consent, and body autonomy. Building on this foundation, we later partnered with The Pleasure Project, a global leader in pleasure-based sexual health education. Through this collaboration, we endorsed the Global Principles for Pleasure-Based Sexual Health, aligning our work with evidence-informed, rights-based, and inclusive frameworks that center joy and agency in sexuality.

In Africa, pleasure remains a rarely discussed and often misunderstood subject, with limited research, learning materials, and safe spaces for open dialogue. This gap revealed a crucial need—to create a space for learning, consultation, and evidence generation that resonates with African realities and cultures.

Through our coordination with the African Network for SRHR Alliances, we began identifying trailblazers—advocates, educators, and organizations who were already pushing boundaries in their contexts. Together, we have established country caucuses that localize the pleasure conversation, build capacity, and share insights to inform programming and advocacy.

As the movement grows, the African Pleasure Hub continues to connect, learn, and co-create knowledge, driving a continental shift towards a more sex-positive, inclusive, and pleasure-affirming Africa.
