NATIONAL PROGRAMS COORDINATOR
Johnstone Kuya is the National Programs Coordinator at SRHR Alliance responsible for the coordination of the country programmes, manages the process of collaboration among country alliance partners and specializes in leading teams to utilize operational research and evaluation findings for policy, advocacy, strategic planning and decision-making. Johnstone has over 10 years of progressive experience in global public health, performance monitoring, evaluation, applied research, leadership and management, and strategic planning in low-resource settings in Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and Asia. Throughout his professional career, Johnstone has designed implemented and supervised research, monitoring and evaluation systems for complex multi-country and multi-faceted programs for UNICEF, USAID and DEC, with particular focus on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, WASH, and Nutrition.
He has demonstrated success in identifying, applying and evaluating high-impact practices and state-of-the-art approaches in four cross-cutting areas at national and sub-national levels: health systems strengthening, capacity building, and advocacy for youth and adolescent leadership. He has also produced papers, articles and presentations in various conferences.
Before joining the SRHR Alliance, Johnstone worked at the Plan International, Merlin International, Amref Health Africa and Ministry of Health. He is also trained in qualitative and quantitative research methods especially in handling and analyzing large data sets using STATA, SPSS and GIS. He has earned his BSc in Public health from Kenyatta University in Kenya, Master of Public Health from Manchester Metropolitan University UK and Currently PhD in Public Health candidate.
